Geography:Rivers

Today we learnt that

A river is like a slide. It is steep at the top and gradually levels out.

Like a ride on a slide a river has 3 sections

The upper course - where the water travels very quickly ans wears away
the rock and soil of the hills.

The middle course - where the river slows down but still moves quickly
enough to carry rocks and soil down the hill with it.

The lower course - where the land is so flat that the river slows down and drops all of the rock and soil it is carrying.

Wearing away rocks and soil is called erosion.
Carrying rocks and soil along is called transportation.
Dropping the rocks and soil is called deposition.

Children produced a diagram with notes to remind them about what
happens at each stage
